Dos and Don'ts:
- Avoid using polythene and plastic as these can harm the environment
- Observe rules and regulations when visiting holy sites
- Abstain from graffiti
- Travel in smaller groups to minimize impact on the environment
- Any non-degradable litter should be disposed off in municipal bins only
- Respect local traditions and culture
- Seek prior permission before taking photographs
- Let the fauna flourish in its natural habitat; animal hunting is strictly prohibited
- Avoid defecating on riverbanks, ensure the spot is at least 30 meters from a source of water
- Do not use pollutants like detergents in streams or on river banks
- Do not use wood as fuel when having to cook at camp sites
- Do not consume alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicant when trekking
- Do not tempt local children by offering them sweets or other foodstuff
- Do not play radios, transistors, cell phones etc. at high volumes; this may cause noise pollution
- Do not make open fires; smoking is strictly prohibited when trekking
- Do not take away plant cuttings, samplings, herbs etc. – it's illegal in many parts of the Himalayas
